Internet marriage-proposer .... who invites to come to Nugegoda Bo tree on the sly
We hear much news from time to time about cupids who dupe females through the internet. One such person had used a fine strategy recently with the motive of hoodwinking a female. He had published marriage proposals on websites over the internet giving the impression that he was an 'Engineer of the Road Development Authority'. He had thereby invited damsels for marriage saying that whoever is willing to marry him could live a comfortable life with his high salary and with a house to his credit. He had also included his phone numbers as well in the internet in his search for a marriage partner while in the process a number of young females had phoned him, believing all what he said.
It was also understood that he had invited these females to come to hotels after seeing his attractive photos and who had called him across the internet -- all that after associating the girls for a short period of time.
A 30 year old female who was employed at a bank in Colombo happened to show an interest in getting settled down and had seen this young man's details and had thought of contacting him.
On the first phone call given by her he had given a rather close response and had behaved in an attractive style making jokes and fun. He had in the process told her that he was a permanent government employee as an Engineer at the Road Development Authority. The girl of course did not refuse to believe his words.
A few days after this phone call he had been calling her over the phone from time to time and had engaged in romantic talk while the girl too had got drawn closer to him.
In the meantime, he had suggested to her after about 2 weeks saying that he wished to meet her in person and for that purpose she would have to put up the day in a hotel. While he had expressed his desire to marry her, he had told her that he is in the throes of a financial problem and to help him out of that predicament. However, the manner in which he had presented his suggestion made her feel somewhat suspicious.
She felt, as if by instinct that this man was trying to get closer to a sexual rendezvous ... not even having met her at any time before. Therefore, with the aid of a female friend of hers she struck upon a plan of making a check on him. So, her friend made a phone call to his phone number and said that she was speaking after having seen his marriage proposal on the internet over the website. On that occasion too he had spoken with a touch of romance as on previous occasions; but had given her a name different from the one given to her friend.
